The scheme ‘Operation Salvage’ is aimed for salvaging the vanishing aspects of tangible and intangible cultures. The IGRMS is making systematic efforts for salvaging various aspects of life enhancing traditions, which are under threat of extinction, through documentation and collection. In this area, the IGRMS collaborates with different Govt. Organisations and recognised N.G.Os and international Organisations like UNESCO. Some important projects on which, the IGRMS are involved in recent years are:
1. Documentation of the shared social ecology of seven Himalayan Countries
2. ‘Dwipantari’ – Shared knowledge systems in the area of artistic manifestations of Indian & South East Asian Tribal and Folk Artists
3. River Valley Cultures of India
Through its institutional and collaborative efforts, the IGRMS has, over the years collected about 15000 specimens of ethnographic and artistic importance, 3500 hours of audio and 2000 hrs. of video recordings, over three lacs of photo documents on various intangible art forms and literature .
