Tribal Habitat is a unique outdoor
exhibition displaying interactive association of given environmental products
in the life-ways of different tribal communities. This exhibition presently
has life size dwelling complexes built in traditional architectural pattern
by using typical indigenous raw materials representing the communities:
Toda(Tamilnadu), Kota(Tamilnadu),
Warli(Maharashtra), Gadaba(Orissa), Saora (Orissa), Kutiakandh (Gujarat),
Rathwa (Gujarat), Chaudhury (Gujarat), Santhal (Bihar), Kamar (Chhattisgarh),
Rajwar (Chhattisgarh), Muria (Chhattisgarh), Agaria(Madhya Pradesh), Bhil
(Madhya Pradesh), Tharu (Uttaranchal), Bodo Kachari (Assam), Mishing (Assam),
Karbi (Assam), Thangkul Naga (Manipur/Nagaland), Jemi Naga (Manipur), Chakasang
Naga (Nagaland), Konyak Naga (Nagaland), Ao Naga (Nagaland)
Display items within this components like oil press, shrines, chariot, khalihan,
the harvesting place etc. from an important aspect of this exhibition. A special
feature of the exhibition is the preservation of traditional dwellings with
ethnographic objects which are developed, by indigenous technology, by using
locally available materials, and not losing light of the aesthetic aspects.
The indoor introductory gallery at the base of the exhibition provides first
hand information about cultures of the tribes depicted in this exhibition.
